Following the dismissal of Avery Johnson, former Bucks, now Houston Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson is a leading candidate for the Brooklyn Nets head coaching job, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Sampson has coached at high-profile programs such as Indiana and Oklahoma in the past. He also coached the  2004 Under-21 USA national team to a gold medal. He also has experience in the NBA with Houston and San Antonio. However, us Bucks fans have grown to love him because he was known as "the guy" after a Scott Skiles outburst/ejection.

I think it's time for him. What do you think? Is Brooklyn the right situation for Sampson?

Brooklyn would be the best option for any 1st time head coach in the nba considering the talent they have, usually guys coming in to this situation have a team with no talent

I think on paper this is a great job and one that many coaches would love to have, but the expectations in Brooklyn are very very high and I dont think they have the talent to be title contenders yet I think that's what Billy King and Prokrov (no idea how to spell that) want. And Unfortunately Brookyln has 2nd highest payroll in the league and the Nets are stuck with who they have on the roster because they already used their amnesty clause.....breaking it down.

Joe Johnson (Good player probly not an all star anymore though) He's already 31 years old and is getting paid 20 mil this year 21 the next 23 after that and then 25 when he will be 35 years old.

Brook Lopez (Injury prone Center that averages less than 7 rebounds per game) paid average of 15 million over next 4 seasons.

Gerald Wallace (also on the wrong side of 30 and "Crash" cant play that style for too much longer I'd guess) 10 million for 4 seasons also

Deron Williams still one of the best PG's in the league but he's now rumored to by catalyst for firing of 2 coaches and his production is declining year after year under contract for 5 seasons making average of 19,20 million.

Also Kris Humphries is under contract for 2 years 12 million I doubt anyone will take on that contract this season.

Here at Bucksketball all of us fans understand what it's like to be stuck in NBA purgatory...for the Bucks it's been fighting for playoff position being anywhere from 7-10th best in the East. In Brookyln it sounds as though they will be dealing with the same problems (5-10th probly tho) except on a national stage in the biggest basketball city in the world with older declining players and for aloooot more money therefore alot less Free Agency freedom. With the Luxury tax rising teams are going to be hesitant about taking on these huge contracts Brooklyn has.

In summation I hope Kelvin Sampson does not take this job because I like the guy and I want him to enjoy NBA success. I just dont think Brooklyn is the place where that can happen right now for a coach.

Also being a Bucks fan Im selfish and I think Sampson would make a great coach for the Bucks after this season when Skiles contract runs out.

I agree with Ted here. I think they have some talent, but they don't have the talent that justifies the expectations they're sure to have year in and year out.

I like Sampson a lot. He was important to Jennings in that rookie year and is great with young players. Plus he knows how to form a relationship with stars. He's a relationship guy and a worker. My favorite quote from him was about how he was willing to stay late and sweep floors so guys could use the gym.
