Scott Skiles might have an idea of what he's doing with young players.

Some great quotes in the Journal-Sentinel after Thursday's practice:

“If you care at all about a guy reaching his potential, it isn’t can he go out and have a good game on a given night. It’s working on a guy’s habits and teaching him how to be a pro, how to prepare himself.:

I know everyone harps on him about this ... thoughts?

I read the article and thought he did have a lot of good points and it sounded right with everything he said. My question is, what rookies has he developed with this system to show its effectiveness? I also wonder what roles Tobias, Lamb, and Henson would have with other teams and systems?

Perhaps a valid point. Right now we're banking a lot on Larry's development through this strategy as "proof" that it is sound, but I'd argue that some players seemed to have come more prepared to be a pro and Skiles rewarded them with immediate roles and minutes. Mbah a Moute and Jennings would be examples of this.

I suppose the crux of the article is more that he has a better handle on if a guy is ready or not. Mbah a Moute/Jennings ready - Tobias/Henson not.

I have always respected Skiles for pushing the young players to get it right in practice first and make them hungry for minutes and prove themselves. I would agree that Larry is a product of Skiles careful coaching and would add that Larry probably wouldn't have blossomed so well if he were drafted by another club, say the wizards for instance. I hold the Bucks coaching staff in pretty high esteem for the most part, they make due with the talent they have. The only time Skiles approach toward young guys becomes questionable is in an instance like Drew Gooden playing over John Henson because Larry is out with foul trouble. In this case Skiles' adherence to principle is potentially costing us a game because anyone with eyes can tell you that Henson is an all-around better player than Gooden.
